Lino Printmaking: Art Box Workshops' Term Two 2023.

I am thrilled with the fantastic artwork created during our Term Two printmaking course for primary school-age children! In this eight-week adventure, our students were excited to start this new, captivating world of Lino printmaking. They were drawing inspiration from renowned Australian artist the late Margaret Olley. The children created a series of unique prints, including a hand-coloured masterpiece featuring their favourite animal.

An outline of our term two, 8-week course.

Week 1: Introduction to Lino Printmaking During the first week of the course, our young artists are introduced to Lino printmaking. They learn about the tools and materials, including carving mats, ink, rollers, and printing processes that can be achieved even as a set-up at home.

Weeks 2 to 4: Animal Exploration With the foundation set, the children will dive into the heart of the course, focusing on animals and their connection to the environment. Then, develop a composition suitable for lino printmaking. Through discussions and research, the young artists gained a deeper appreciation for the significance of animals in our natural world.

Weeks 5 to 7: Carving and Printing As the young artists refine their ideas, they will learn the intricate art of carving their chosen animal design into linoleum blocks. Our instructors will provide one-on-one guidance to ensure each child's vision comes to life on the block. As you see in the video, you see the excitement of our students as they apply ink and create their first artist-proof carved blocks onto paper, producing a series of prints to choose from.

Week 8: Hand-Coloured Masterpiece In the final week, the children explored hand-colouring techniques for their favourite print inspired by Margaret Olley’s artistic style. Through this process, they added a personal touch of colour to the artwork.

Benefits of the Course: Art Box Workshops' Term Two printmaking course offers numerous advantages to young participants. By immersing themselves in the art of Lino printmaking, children will:

  1. Develop Fine Motor Skills: The meticulous process of carving linoleum blocks enhances fine motor skills and attention to detail.
  2. Discover Artistic Expression: Children will learn to express themselves creatively by exploring animal-themed art.
  3. Connect with Nature: Learning about animals and their environments fosters a deeper appreciation for nature and conservation.
  4. Gain Confidence: As their skills progress, children will experience a boost in confidence and self-esteem.

Art Box Workshops' Term Two printmaking course promises an enriching journey for primary school-age children, from the magical world of Lino printmaking to the inspiration drawn from famous Australian artists such as Margaret Olley.
